Why should I have a sprinkler system installed?
Sprinkler systems make watering your lawn and plants very easy. The cost of replacing plants and grass that have died due to hot and dry conditions can get very expensive. Not to mention that you are also very busy and don't have the time it takes to water each area individually. With a professionally designed sprinkler system from Automatic Rain, we can save you time and money, so you can get back to living your life on your terms.
Won't I be using a lot more water?
If you haven't been watering your grass and plants already then you will see an increase in water consumption; if you have been using a store bought sprinkler or hose, then it is possible that you will notice a decrease in water consumption.
I live in the Mid-South, do I really need to have my system winterized?
Yes, the winterization process is still very important in this part of the country. Even though we have milder winters than other parts of the country we often get severe winter weather which can damage your sprinkler system. During the winterization process we will remove the water from your system so there is nothing there to freeze. This process will tremendously reduce the risk of winter weather related damage.
Water is seeping from one of my sprinkler heads.
This may actually not be a problem; first, check to see how long it has been since the system ran, if it has just turned off recently give it some time to see if the water stops seeping as the zone has to drain excess water. If the seepage continues there may be a concern with the valve that operates that zone. Give us a call and we can fix that for you.
I got a letter that says I have a leak because I am using too much water, please help.
This letter is part of the City of Memphis' initiative to help its customers conserve their resources. You may actually not have a problem. When your sprinkler system is started up you begin using significantly more water than when you are not running the system regularly. The best way to check is to make sure that there is no water running in the house (ie. toilets, faucets, washer, dish washer, etc.) then go to the water meter, open the lid and check to see if the dial on the meter is turning. At this point the dial should not be turning, if it is turning then there may be an irrigation leak.
My yard is really wet.
One of the most common calls we get is about an area of the yard that is really wet, so here is how we can help you. If you have a leak on the sprinkler system (please see above) then you will have a wet area that will typically be smaller in size, usually not more than a few feet in diameter and the ground will be saturated below the surface. If you have an entire area of your yard that is wet, that zone may be getting too much water and you can try reducing the amount of time that zone is running. As always, if you are concerned about this, please give us a call and we will gladly help.
How do I program my Rain Bird ESP Controller?
There are a lot of controllers out there so we apologize for not giving a link to all of them but we chose this controller because this is the one we install on most of our systems. It is a great piece of equipment and very easy to use. Here is a tutorial for how to Program the ESP Controller. You can also download the manual for your Rain Bird controller from their website
